Hotel Encanto Plaza, built in 1843, is a cultural and architectural icon in the historic center of Sancti Spíritus city. While the hotel has been updated for modern travelers, it maintains its colonial style; art exhibits provide added cultural value.
Although registered in 1843, historic documents reveal that the original property at this site - a house with a roofed veranda – dated from 1784.
At the turn of the 20th century, the building began to take on its role as host to locals and travelers when a coffee lounge and bar were opened on the first floor. A few years later, in 1912, the second floor was converted into a guesthouse, which marked the beginning of the property’s life as an overnight option for visitors.
Blue is popular in Sancti Spíritus – both the sister Hotel Encanto Rijo, and Hotel Encanto Plaza have gaily painted blue façades. The terrace here is the perfect perch for appreciating the rhythm and pace of Sancti Spíritus. Inside, the Plaza’s courtyard is a cozy space with exposed brick and arches, tiled floors, lush plants and cast iron patio furniture.
Centrally-located only one block from Parque Serafín Sánchez, this is an ideal location for strolling around the friendly streets of this 500-year old town. Other interesting sights within reach include the Plaza Honorato, the church Nuestra Senora de la Caridad, Casa de la Trova, and the medieval looking Yayabo Bridge.
