The Mascotte is a hotel that has preserved its neoclassical architecture dating from the 1860s. The preservation of the building recalls the era of the house — that of a home belonging to sugar barons in Remedios, before it bemcae a hotel — with the telegraph office — in 1879.
Remedios was one of the first cities in Cuba founded by the colonizing Spaniards and has a rich history and traditions.
Its extraordinary and fun-filled annual carnival in the month of December, its colonial architecture, along with its weekend alfresco orchestras, make this an authentic city.
The Mascotte is a jewel of architecture due to the preservation of its buildings which is why it’s considered a boutique hotel. In 2004, it earned the distinction ""E"", a category reserved for those hotels whose architectural restoration is of a high standard, alongside offering great service by the staff.
It also features a patio bar with blue painted chairs, 10 high-ceilinged rooms and a restaurant.
On the 24 December each year in Remedios, the whole town comes to a standstill to celebrate its well known carnival. Las Parrandas are famous throughout the island for the parades and fireworks. The festival is organized by two rival districts who spend a good part of the year designing floats and costumes.
It’s possible to organize transfers, although these are nearly always concentrated towards the keys. We suggest, then, that the best option is to hire a car. If you come from the west, take the Autopista Nacional (A1) towards Santa Clara before taking the provincial road (CN) the 50 kilometers to Remedios.
