The colonial hotel Casa Granda - Santiago de Cuba’s flagship property - is located right in the heart of Cuba’s most Caribbean city, overlooking emblematic Parque Céspedes.
The stately four-floor building dates from 1914. It’s a prime example of eclectic architecture, but the facade maintains a certain sobriety, enriched with elegant ornamental details.
What makes this hotel lovelier still are the outdoor spaces where visitors can sip an espresso or cocktail and watch daily life unfold in the park across the street. There’s a terrace off the lobby where guests gather to swap travel stories and listen to music, complemented by the magnificent roof garden overlooking the Cathedral.
There’s a restaurant on the fetching roof garden where you can dine while appreciating the breathtaking views of the city. If you consider yourself even a casual people watcher or observer of the human condition, the Casa Granda is the perfect perch for these pursuits. Graham Greene would have agreed on this, and although the title of his -""Our Man in Havana"" – is somehow contradictory, it set part here.
Casa Granda makes a wonderful home base for exploring this captivating city on foot. Sites within walking distance include the Cathedral de Nuestra Senora de la Asunción, Museo del Carnaval , and the Museo Municipal de Emilio Bacardí. At night, get your fill of dancing and music at the Casa de las Tradiciones or the nearby Casa de la Trova.
