    Route 14

    Summary
    Jeoji - Hallim Olle
Jeoji Community Hall to Hallim Biyang-do Ferry Dock
    19.3km (6~7hrs)

    Intorduction
The peaceful and homely Green Olle(narrow pathway) meets the cool and lively Blue Olle here. Once you go past the open fields of Jeju’s farm villages that relax your mind, dense forests such as Gotjawal continues. Exit the comfy forests and follow the dry rivers to arrive at the blue sea. You certainly cannot get bored while walking 19.3 kilometers of long journey ridden with with stone walls, farmlands, forests, rivers, tree-lined promenades along the shore, fine sandy beach and pathways through small villages. The glorious scenery of Biyang-do(island) is visible through the entire walk by the water. It is very interesting to rotate around the island as you walk progressively. The exploration team put in an extra effort to find trails and create a pathway where it seemed to be impossible. The fruit of the hardwork is evident throughout the entire length of the trail.

    Sightseeing

    Keunsonang(large pine tree) Forest Path
A forest path with numerous large pine trees, it was assigned its name by Jeju Olle Foundation during the trail’s development. ‘Nang’ means tree in Jeju dialect.

    Osirokheon Nong-ro(farm road)
‘Osirokheon’ in Jeju dialect means cozy. The comfortable walk through the farm fields evokes a cozy feeling, thus given the name ‘Osirokheon Nong-ro’.

    Guleongjin Sup-gil
A hollow, sunken terrain is said to be called ‘Guleongjida’ in Jeju. Newly developed by Jeju Olle Foundation, the path was named the Guleongjin Sup-gil(pathway) for its many curvatures and sunken terrains throughout the trail.

Pontanious land of Seoninjang in Wollyeong-ri
If you spot any Seoninjang(cactuse) on route 14, you can guess that you are in Wollyeong-ri. Wollyeong-ri is the sole region in Korea where cactuses grow naturally. The wild cacti colonies covering the coastal boulders of Wollyeong-ri is designated and protected as 429th Natural Monument. It is postulated that one cactus grown in a pot has colonized the beach, or to have migrated from the south and settled on sand or in between boulders. It is stated that cacti were planted on stone walls of households to prevent snakes or rats from entering the house in Wollyeong-ri. The cacti bloom a yellow flower in the summer.

    Habitat of Haenyeo-kong(bean)
The length of the peapods are about 4~5cm, similar to that of kidney beans. However, they contain toxins that make the beans inedible. The Haenyeo(women divers) ate these beans during an unwanted pregnancy, and many lost their lives from intoxication. It was initially known to only grow on the tokki-seom(rabbit island) in Jeju, but the Jeju Olle Foundation exploration team found them for the first time on this trail.

Geumneung . Hyeopjae Beach Ranked the beaches with the most beautiful colors of the ocean, the Geumneung Beach and the Hyeopjae Beach are adjacent to each other. Both beaches glow in silver due to the seashells mingled with the sand. The color of the ocean is stunning. It is a rather shallow beach with low slopes, especially good for a swim with children. It was designated as an outstanding beach in 2007 by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.

    Biyang-do
The scenery of Biyang-do(island) floods your vision, starting from the Wollyeong Beach at the midpoint of Jeju Olle Trail route 14, to Hallim-hang(harbor). It is a special experience to see different sides of the island by walking on the trail. Biyang-do is a volcanic island created from an eruption one thousand years ago, in 1002. It is one of the youngest volcanic islands in Jeju. The region is famous for its coral reefs formed by the abundant marine organisms and clear sea waters. The inner crater of the Biyang-bong(peak) is the sole place in Korea where wild Biyang Namu (Oreocnide fruticosa) grows. (Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Designated Natural Monument No. 48).

    Ongpo-pogu(port)
It is a battlefield for the warfare during the Sambyeolcho struggle and Mokho Revolution. In the year 1270, General Lee, Mun-gyeong took his troops from Sambyeolcho here and won the battle against the Koryo royal forces, invading Jeju for the first time. In 1374, General Choi, Yeong arrived with 314 battleships and 25,000 troops and repelled 3,000 troops of Mongol attackers.

Hallim Five-Day Interval Market . Hallim Daily Market To experience the local traditional market in Hallim, visit the Five-Day Interval Market(Oh-il-jang ) and the Daily Market(Maeil Sijang ). The Five-Day Interval Market opens every 4th and 9th near the Daerim Banseok Apartment Complex in Hallim-eup, Daerim-ri. It is a bit off the trail. Across from the Hallim-hang(harbor) at the end of route 14 is the permant traditional market, also known as the Daily Market(Maeil Sijang). A variety of fresh seafoods just entering the port are sold here.

The room was very spacious, clean and neat, with bedroom and bathroom slippers for guests. Everything that you need is pretty much available in the room. Mr Oh was a good host and he kindly helped to carry our luggages up to our rooms as there is no lift in the building. We felt bad for getting him to help us with our super heavy luggages when we checked out. I highly recommend bringing cabin-sized or light luggages if you're interested to stay here. Mr Oh was very friendly and recommended places to visit in Jeju Island. Overall, it was a nice experience :)

I really enjoy my stay at Minjoonggak. First, the host is friendly & helpful. Even before I made reservation, the host was very responsive to my enquiries.

Second, the room is spacious. This is the only guesthouse I've stayed in Korea that has everything provided sufficiently - slippers for each guest in the room (separately for toilet & for bedroom), shampoo & shower gel, lots of hangers to air our clothes. The floor heating system also serves well during the winter. Wifi strong.

In addition, it is very near to food street.

I would definitely recommend this guesthouse to anyone visiting Seogwipo.

The place was adequate enough. Price was very good. It would have been nice to have breakfast included for a little higher price. The top floor kitchen is a good idea but it is left open with mosquitoes flying rampant. It needs to be screened in most definitely. It would also be good to have dishes and utensils in the kitchen to use.

I stayed at 4 different guesthouse while I was in Korea. This guesthouse is the best with its spacious, clean and cozy rooms. Near to market and local bus terminal. highly recommended to others. Although Mr. Oh speaks English a little, but he really put lots of effort to help. but no worry, wifi is available, so goole translate is always there to help you.

It is a double-bed room comes with ensuite bathroom - located in the middle of seongwipo, near to the food alley/street and bus terminal. We drive actually but it is not difficult to locate the guest house, just punch in the telephone number on the GPS and you should be able to reach there. There are washing machines provided on the top floor for those who need to use it.
It was a pleasant stay - Mr Oh and his helpers are friendly thought they can't speak much english but communication is made possible with some hand gesture.
There is a NH mart at the 2nd food street if you need to get snack, C & U is nearby as well.

I keep on sending emails back and forth asking questions about the guest house and Mr. Oh is so nice to answer it all. My friend and I had a good night stay there with spacious room and comfortable bed. With Mr. Oh 's help we managed to go to Jungmun Resort via local bus. He also suggested a seafood place for dinner and we truly enjoyed it. The guest house is near to convenient store, bakery and restaurants. Definately worth place to stay in Seogwipo. Highly recommended.

The host has been unimaginably accommodating during our stay in Minjungak. The room is well-maintained, and facilities are moderately equipped. It was not very convenient to get by hot water as we have to go downstairs to get it. Overall, we had an enjoyable stay in Minjungak.
