Wolpyeong - Daepyeong Olle(restricted area)
Ahwaenangmok in Wolpyeong Village to Daepyeong Pogu
19.2km (6~7 hours)
This route continues along the coastline through ‘Jusangjeolli’ which is a formation of stone pillars piled up along the coast. The ‘Jusangjeolli’ were created when the lava form Mt.Halla-san erupted into the sea of Jungmun. The sight of the abundant pampas grass makes your walk even more enjoyable. A pathway made of numerous rocks on the coastline was built by the Marine Corps for Jeju Olle Trail, so it is called ‘The Marine Corps Trail’. The pathway used to be used only by local divers. Due to the potential dangers of rockslides, 2km of the path from the Hyatt Regengy Jeju to Nonjinmul, including the Haebyeongdae-gil(pathway), is currently closed for hikers’ safety. The detour through Yerae-dong and Natural Ecology Village is 6.3km.The terminus of the route, ‘Daepyeong Pogu’, sits on the end of a valley and the open fields run towards the sea. The scenery of Mt.Gun-san surrounding the villege is also stunning.
The Jusangjeolli are stone pillars piled up along the coast and have been designated as a cultural monument of Jeju Island. The Jusangjeolli were formed when Mt.Hallasan erupted and lava poured into the sea of Jungmun. These rock pillars are shaped like cubes or hexagons of various sizes and almost seem as if they have been carved by stonemasons.
