TheComendador has stood for centuries near Plaza de Armas, amidst the winding streets running through the old town. The rather solid, yet alluring corner building houses 14 guestrooms. The architecture is typical Spanish Mudéjar-style (Moorish-influenced), popular when El Comendador was built in the 18th century.
Twinned with Hostal Valencia, both properties share a similar sense of coziness and intimacy. The wooden banisters and balconies are painted an alluring Caribbean blue – unlike the Valencia with its verdant green woodwork. The two hotels run almost seamlessly together: the contrasting paint jobs signal when you’ve crossed from one to the other. Breakfast is served in the Valencia.
Whereas the Valencia is known for its delicious paella, El Comendador’s restaurant specializes in Spanish cuisine, including a selection of tapas.
